The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Debuts, Unveiling New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo and Illumination released the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that highlighted the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
Following up on the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the far corners of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a different royal figure and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
A Cosmic Adventure Inspired by Beloved Titles
Similar to the games from the Wii period that act as its source material, Mario will leave behind the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. On his epic voyage, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.
Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also includes nods to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns and Expands
The feature will see the return of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Big Year for Mario
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is planned to debut near the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his allies.
Nintendo confirmed a set of three fresh titles publicly declared for the upcoming year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Release Date Confirmed
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
